The blue-and-yellow macaw is a stunningly pretty bird, and therefore many of them have been lost due to the pet trade. But they don't make very good pets. They have a piercing screech and a powerful beak which can be used to destroy a lot of things in the average household. So the moral of the story is this; let's keep them in the wild where they belong.

A Park Full of Parrots
If I were to guess, I would say the parrot is most represented species at Disney's Animal Kingdom. Now I will admit I haven't done the research on this, but between those at the Oasis and Tree of Life trails, Flights of Wonder and now Winged Encounters, it just feels like you can find a gorgeous and colorful parrot around every corner.
This blue-and-yellow macaw can be found on the often overlooked Tree of Life trails. Just keeping walking and you will find them, and usually someone trying in vain to see if they talk.

Wings to Impress
Okay, I will admit that on the surface this Lappet-faced Vulture, found near the Tree of Life, may not be the most beautiful bird in the Animal Kingdom. But if you ever get the chance to see him spread his wings you will be blown away. This bird's wingspans can often reach over nine feet long!

It's Good To Be The Biggest!
A hidden gem of Disney's Animal Kingdom is the collection of wildlife trails hidden on Discovery Island and the Oasis. If you take the Tree of Life Trails you will come across this incredible Galapagos Tortoise.
The Galapagos Tortoise is the largest tortoise on the planet. They can weigh up to 500 pounds and live four well over a hundred years. This species also played a huge role in Charles Darwin's work, so the Galapagos Tortoise is not just impressively large it is also played a part in human history.

Photo Bombing at the Tree of Life!
We talk a lot on Jambo Everyone about the so-called "hidden gems" of Disney's Animal Kingdom, the amazing little things that most guests walk right past on their way to making a FastPass return time. One of those gems is the pathways around the Tree of Life, where you will find some cute-as-heck Kangaroos and, apparently, African Crowned Cranes.
This photo was meant to be a photo of a slumbering kangaroo, and a nice one at that. Than up from the bottom of my view finder popped this crane! I was a victim of a photo bomb by a bird.

Jump Right In!
It is almost impossible to not use the word "cute" when looking at the Asian Small-Clawed Otters found on Discovery Island by the Tree of Life. These guys are adorable and very fun to watch, as they chase each other around the habitat. This photo was taken just seconds before the otter dove into the water head first.

Slow and Steady Wins the Race
Here is a photo I took quite some time ago. One of the great hidden gems of Disney's Animal Kingdom is the quiet and beautiful Discovery Island Trails, in the shadow of the Tree of Life. Take a walk through them and you may come across this giant reptile.
The Galapagos Tortoise is the largest tortoise in the world, coming in at over five feet long and more than 800 pounds. But I learned all that from Safari Mike so follow that blog and soon you too may learn all about the Galapagos Tortoise.
