High Above Anandapur

Definitely one of my favorite exhibits in the park is the ruins near Yak & Yeti that hold the gibbons and the siamang.

Here one of the siamangs can be found high up in trees overlooking the people below. It's probably a pretty great view.

Eld's deer

These guys are quite regal. The male Eld's deer can be a difficult opponent for a Bengal tiger to take on. A healthy buck like this one will stand and fight, and with those antlers can be very dangerous.

In the wild, it is typically only the weak, young and old that are preyed upon by tigers.

Telling a Different Story

Now, this photo may give the impression that the female, the one with the light fur, may be helping a friend by lending a hand. But the truth is, the male was just playing and wouldn’t stop grabbing the females arm. Some pictures don’t tell the whole story.

Finding the Right Perch

Everyone who has been to the Asia section of Disney's Animal Kingdom will recognize this species. It is the white-cheecked gibbon. Their habitat, and especially their antics, can often dominate a guest's attention in this area. This female, and you can tell it's a female from her white fur, found as high perch as she could to do some tourist watching.

The white-cheeked gibbon is listed as critically endangered as habitat loss and poaching his decreased their population be almost 80% over the last few decades.

The Perfect Surroundings

The White Cheeked Gibbons are one of the most entertaining species to watch at Disney's Animal Kingdom, found in between the entrances to Kail River Rapids and the Maharajah Jungle Trek. They also happen to have one of the most stunningly beautiful habitats, as they have made their home out of an ancient temple which is currently being restored by the people of Anandapur.

Oh, and in case you were wondering, I have absolutely no idea why this girl was pointing her foot at me. I can only assume that was her favorite pose.
