Slow Down and Catch the Good Stuff

We often complain about how some guests just blaze through Disney's Animal Kingdom on their way to e-ticket attractions and miss all the cool and hidden gems. Well, let me offer this advice. If you plan to leave the park midday for an afternoon rest at your hotel, give yourself some extra time on the way out to stop in the Oasis and see the animals there. If you don't you will miss species like this impressive rhinoceros iguana.

On the latest episode of the Radio Harambe podcast, we talked in depth about the incredible Oasis Trails. Have a listen for some fun facts about the rhinoceros iguana.

Hoping...or Hopping for Australia!

Why do we always hear DAK fans wishing for a "land" based on Australia? Well, let's face it. They have some pretty cool animals Down Under! You can see a few Austalian animals already at the park, including this handsome Red Kangaroo.

The Red Kangaroo is the biggest and most numerous kangaroo in Australia. They can grow to be as tall as a human and hop nearly 40 miles per hour. But more impressively, when they get up a good head of steam they jump nearly 10 yards per jump over and over again.

A Really Big, and Really Cute, Rodent

The photo below is of an animal called a Patagonian Cavy, or also referred to as the Patagonian Mara. This incredibly cute little guy is indigenous to Argentinian. And while he looks a lot like a rabbit, he really is a big rodent.

Some visitors to Disney's Animal Kingdom, especially the "half-day parkers", won't know that the Cavy is one of the very first animals on display at the park. So instead of rushing though the Oasis to your e-ticket of choice, stop and look around. There are some amazing, rare, and really cute animals all around you.

Standing At Attention

Jungle Jim has indeed been in the jungle this time, getting us the gorgeous photograph of a Great Green Macaw.  This breed of macaw is also know as the Great Military Macaw, which explains their ability to stand at attention for hours!

The Great Green Macaw is certainly an attention grabber, but they are also on the endangered list.  The Ara Project is working towards their survival, and you can learn how you can help by going to our Conservation Page.
