A Head Above the Rest

Evolution has handed Giraffes quite the advantage by being able to see over the rest of the animals to see where the best food in the area can be found. That must be quite a view they have up there. At Disney's Animal Kingdom hey also have the advantage of the rest of their friends in the habitat not being able to reach their food!

Stage Fright

Sometimes it is easy for us to forget that the animals at Disney's Animal Kingdom are, in fact, wild. Most of the time they seem so relaxed and at ease with all the attention from guests. But once you put a baby in the picture, the scene can change.

This young Masai Giraffe, flanked by two family members, had only been "onstage" at Kilimanjaro Safaris when I took this photo of them running from the truck. Giraffes on Safari are famous for not really caring at all about the trucks, and often blocking their path and slowing the ride. But this baby was still nervous, and so was the rest of the family.

It's Always a Good Time for Giraffe Photos!

Those of us who love photographing the animals of Disney's Animal Kingdom and the Animal Kingdom Lodge are always forever grateful for the incredibly photogenic collection of giraffes who make their home there. Besides being beautiful, these guys are usually not at all camera shy.

These giraffes are all from the Masai species and were photographed here on the Kilimanjaro Safaris. Can you tell the difference?
